Radhakrishnan Commission (1948 - 49)

Radhakrishan commisiion was appointed to reform the university education in India.It recommended 12 years of pre university education.

Mudaliar Commission (1952 - 53)

Mudaliar commission put forwarded the idea of multipurpose schools and 11 years pattern of school education.

Daulat Singh Kothari Commission (1964 - 66)

Kothari commission advised a national pattern of education.
It recommended free and compulsory education up to the age of 14.
Kothari commission recommended three language formula - mother tongue,Hindi and English and development of regional languages.

The national policy on education(NPE) is started in the year 1986.
District primary education programme(DPEP) initiated in India in 1994
Sarva shiksha abhiyan (SSA) launched in 2001 replaced DPEP.
By the 86th amendment in 2002,the article 21(A) is inserted in the Indian constitution.
Article 21(A) provides free and compulsory education to all children from the age of 6 to 14 years.
Right to education act was passed on 4th August 2009 and came into force on 1st April 2010.

Commission submitted its report in August 1949.
University grants commission was costituted in 28th December 1953 the recommendation of Radhakrishnan committee.
UGC was formally established by the act of parliament in 1956.
UGC is a statutory body.
UGC was inagurated by Abul Kalam Azad.
