EDUCATIONAL COMMISSIONS IN INDIA
Radhakrishnan Commission (1948 - 49)
- Radhakrishan commisiion was appointed to reform the university education in India.It recommended 12 years of pre university education.
- Mudaliar commission put forwarded the idea of multipurpose schools and 11 years pattern of school education.
- Kothari commission advised a national pattern of education.
- It recommended free and compulsory education up to the age of 14.
- Kothari commission recommended three language formula - mother tongue,Hindi and English and development of regional languages.
NATIONAL POLICY ON EDUCATION
- The national policy on education(NPE) is started in the year 1986.
- District primary education programme(DPEP) initiated in India in 1994
- Sarva shiksha abhiyan (SSA) launched in 2001 replaced DPEP.
- By the 86th amendment in 2002,the article 21(A) is inserted in the Indian constitution.
- Article 21(A) provides free and compulsory education to all children from the age of 6 to 14 years.
- Right to education act was passed on 4th August 2009 and came into force on 1st April 2010.
